PIAM (Persatuan Insurans Am Malaysia)

PIAM, the Persatuan Insurans Am Malaysia or General Insurance Association of Malaysia, is the trade association representing general insurers in Malaysia, including those that provide motor insurance.

It is not itself an insurer and does not pay claims, but it coordinates industry positions and frameworks that individual member insurers then apply, including matters connected to the no-claim discount system. Complaints about a specific claim are still directed to the insurer involved, or to the relevant regulator.

Knowing PIAM’s role helps you understand who actually decides your claim, which remains your own insurer or the at-fault driver’s insurer.

PIAM also publishes general consumer information about motor insurance, which can be a useful background reference alongside your own policy document. Its member insurers stay independently responsible for how they handle each claim.
