Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB)

The Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB) is a body funded by licensed motor insurers that may pay compensation for death or bodily injury when the at-fault driver had no valid insurance.

MIB cover has real limits. It pays for injury or death only, not vehicle damage, and it requires the offending vehicle to be identified by its plate number, with a claim generally made within three years.[1] A genuine hit-and-run where the vehicle cannot be identified usually has no MIB remedy in Malaysia.

MIB is separate from the Malaysian Motor Insurance Pool, which is insurance for owners who struggle to buy cover on the open market, not a fund for victims.

Claiming against an uninsured driver explains how an MIB claim is made.
