Special mention

A special mention is a brief, procedural hearing listed in court to check on the progress of a case, such as whether documents have been filed or a settlement is close.

It is not the occasion for arguing the merits of the claim, and a case can be mentioned several times as it moves through the process handled at the Sessions Court. Parties or their representatives are usually expected to be ready to update the court briefly.

Treat a special mention date seriously, since missing it without a good reason can delay your own case.

It differs from a full hearing in that no evidence is usually called, and the update can sometimes be handled quickly without either party attending in person.
