Laporan polis (police report)

A laporan polis, the Malay term for a police report, is the official written record of an accident lodged with the police, describing what happened, when and where.

A driver involved in an accident causing injury, death or damage is required to report it within twenty-four hours under Section 52 of the Road Transport Act 1987.^[1] The full steps are covered in how to lodge a police report for an accident.

Insurers and courts treat this report as a key piece of evidence, so its accuracy matters as much as its timing.

You are normally given an acknowledgment at the time of reporting, which is worth keeping safe alongside your other accident documents. A missing report can significantly slow down an otherwise straightforward claim.
