Knock-for-knock

A knock-for-knock arrangement is an agreement between insurers where each one pays its own policyholder’s vehicle damage without first fighting over who caused the accident.

The idea is speed. Instead of both insurers spending time and money proving fault before anyone gets repaired, each pays its own side and the vehicle damage claims move quickly.

Knock-for-knock is about vehicle repair costs between insurers. It does not decide who was actually at fault, and it does not settle a claim for personal injury, which still depends on proving what happened.
