JPJ (Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan)

JPJ, short for Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan or the Road Transport Department, is the government body responsible for vehicle registration, road tax and driving licences in Malaysia.

Its records can matter in a claim, since they confirm who owned or was licensed to drive a vehicle at the time of an accident, feeding into the documents you need to build a claim. JPJ is a separate body from Puspakom, which carries out the physical vehicle inspection.

If ownership or licensing is disputed after a crash, a JPJ record is often the first place to check.

JPJ also processes the transfer of vehicle ownership, which can matter if a damaged vehicle changes hands before a claim is fully resolved. Its records are generally treated as reliable evidence of who was responsible for a vehicle.
